How the Deal Checker works
The short version behind every verdict — no black box.
We add up everything in your quote — the cruise fare plus any perks like onboard credit or free drinks — to work out its true cost per person, per night. Then we compare that figure against live prices we're tracking for the same cruise line, cabin type and sailing month.
Each perk is priced at typical retail cost, not face value — a drinks package or prepaid gratuities get deducted from your fare at what they'd genuinely cost to buy separately. Onboard credit and shopping vouchers count at face value. A cabin upgrade or loyalty credit isn't counted, since it isn't a straightforward cash saving.
The same live, daily-tracked pricing that powers the rest of CruisePriceSpy — never a rough guess. Where we can match your exact sailing, we compare against that ship's own tracked price history; otherwise we compare against other tracked sailings for the same cruise line, cabin type and month. Cruise-only and flights-included prices are always kept separate, never mixed.
Every verdict states how much data it's based on — how many sailings we're tracking for that line, cabin and month. If the sample is small, or we're using a broader estimate rather than an exact match, we say so plainly rather than sounding more certain than we are.
